Eight months on, December 2021’s Whisky of the Month is even more of a monster. Behold the Starward Tawny Fortified Single Cask.
Members often ask us what our whiskies would taste like straight from the barrel. And at The Whisky Club, we listen. This is a single cask, at cask strength and then some.
While the team at the distillery were putting together Starward Finished in Tawny Fortified Casks last year, they uncovered a couple of casks that stood out from the rest. These were set aside to see what another nine months in the rich South Australian Tawny casks would do.
Starward Tawny Fortified Single Cask does exactly what we hoped it would. It’s an intense, flavour-enhanced whisky that keeps the wonderful complex elements of the original, then ratchets it up to eleven.
All we can say is the whisky properly luxuriated in the decadent South Australian Port. The result? An absolute rockstar of a dram. This is a darker, more intense cask strength version of our favourite Starward release to date. Think rich, chewy caramel, roasted almonds and blackberry jam alongside sun-dried raisins, brown sugar and Black Forest cake.
And there’s more. Starward was just named Most Awarded Distillery at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Proudly flying the Australian flag, no less than 12 of their whiskies took out Double Gold at the event. This really is next-level whisky making.
All bottles listed for purchase are from personal collections. Please examine all images carefully and satisfy yourself as to their condition before making a bid. Minor markings are inevitable and collector's should have reasonable expectations in this regard.
