Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso Matured Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
If you've enjoyed the bourbon-cask-matured Nadurra, the new Nadurra Oloroso might also get your attention. Cask-strength and solely matured in first-fill oloroso sherry casks, this is non-chill filtered and only produced in small batches.
Tasting note: Deep polished copper shows good viscosity. Opens with hints of caramel nib and bittersweet dark chocolate through the vapoury spirit; later inhalations find more overt sherried character as roasted almonds and subdued dried fruit notes mingle with vanilla. Intense, prickly, hot and bittersweet attack; mid palate offers cinnamon and mocha over dense dried fruits and a forgivable trace of sulphur. Finish is spirity, a little out of balance; Ends spiced-up, dry, shortish, with attractive orange cake and cocoa flavours. There's a lot to like about this assertive malt, but it's not going to find favour with everyone. A splash of water should go some way to broadening its appeal. 60.7% Alc./Vol.
