Hakushu 12 Year Old (700ml)
Hakushu, the third distillery from Suntory, was established in 1973 to supplement Yamazaki's malt production. In the same year, Yamazaki had shifted its grain production to the new Chita distillery. Hakushu sits at the base of the Southern Japan Alps, specifically chosen by Suntory to bring a different character to its spirits compared to Yamazaki. Interestingly, in 1981, a new distillery called Hakushu East was built with a variety of still shapes and sizes, providing a wide range of distinct distillate. This is a stark contrast to the original Hakushu West distillery, now inactive, which has 24 large stills of the same shape and size, limiting its capacity to produce a single style of distillate.
